The 100th day of the Iowa Legislative session is quickly approaching. On Tuesday April 17th the Legislator’s per diem expenses will end. In a perfect world, the Legislative session would as well. However, with a Republican controlled House and Democrat controlled Senate it looks extremely unlikely that the Legislature will be wrapped up by Tuesday. Differences in appropriations have yet to be settled and key areas of reform are yet to be completed.
Standings Bill Passes House
HF 2465, the current version of the House Standings bill was passed on the House floor this week. This bill if enacted would require state employees and elected officials to contribute at least 25% of their total health insurance premium. The bill passed by mostly party lines with Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed. Iowans for Tax Relief appreciates that House Republicans have continued to work toward this important reform. As this bill now moves over to the Senate, ITR encourages Iowa Senators to keep this provision that would provide relief, reform, and fairness to the Iowa taxpayers.
