There is continued speculation on how or if the United States Congress will extend federal tax cuts which are set to expire at the end of this year. Allowing the federal tax cuts, which were enacted in 2001 and 2003, to expire will impact Iowa taxpayers. The Heritage Foundation, a Washington, D.C. based research organization has released a report detailing the economic and fiscal effects of going with the plan advocated by President Obama, which would allow portions of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts to expire.
